HAPPINESS, A FIVE-YEAR PLAN (2012-2014)

To only deliver economic growth and constantly rising living standards are no longer enough, several Chinese newspapers have reported. Other values are needed, thus, a Happiness Index has been introduced in addition to GDP as a measure of government performance in some provinces.
Not only in China has “happiness” become a buzzword, but in Sweden and other European countries too. Is this a cover up for failing policies, or a real attempt to come to terms with some of the difficult situations we are facing? We decided to dig into this new trend together with a group of Chinese artists.

Is freedom of choice in all fields of life a curse or a blessing? Have we lost sight of the really important choices – those with the potential to transform both ourselves and the world?
During 2010, we travelled through Sweden carrying a question with us: What is freedom? We do not believe it can be answered in one way only. Therefore, we sought out people with different experiences and life situations in order to hear their stories.

VOICE (2010)

Voice. Vote. Election year. On August 21, 2010, Nu-institutet staged an election at the town square of Mariannelund, Sweden, where roughly 100 people had gathered. A compère and vote counter guided them through the voting procedure. They were accompanied by a chef who transformed the result into a soup with the help of volunteers from the audience.
